Being Late...

“If you're gonna be late, then be late and not just 2 minutes – make it an hour and enjoy your breakfast.” – David Brent

My father is always late. It doesn't matter if he's been awake for five minutes or five hours--he is always late. If we need to leave at 4:00pm to go somewhere, at 3:42pm, he'll announce that he has to take a shower and disappear.

I've tried to battle this in different ways. The most almost-successful one was the time I told him we needed to leave for Christmas dinner at my cousin's a half an hour before we actually had to leave. He was about to step in the shower when he asked my step-mother, who I hadn't told of the plan, what time we had to leave. She gave him the correct time, much to my chagrin, and he went and did whatever he does in his office for another twenty minutes before he got in the shower and we left late...again.

As an adult, in charge of my own schedule, I try my very hardest to not be late. I've found that it's more difficult to be on time the closer where I need to be is to my house. For example, this morning I had an eye doctor appointment about three miles from where I live, yet I walked out the door with only a few precious minutes to spare...then I found out that I had put the wrong time on my calendar, so I was a half an hour early for the appointment anyway. That's only annoying because I could have used that extra thirty minutes of sleep.

We were also a little late going down to Macon yesterday for the Cherry Blossom Festival parade, but that was due to...I'm not sure what. Maybe letting the dogs out one more time before we left. I forget. It didn't matter in the long run, though, as we were the first to make it to the rendezvous site anyway.

The parade itself was fast once it got started. There was more in the way of marching and less in the way of stopping to get pictures with people. It also felt really long, but that might be because it looped back around on itself. I think we ended up actually marching for about six or eight blocks. I can't find any pictures of us online. I hope someone posts something soon...
